Branding itself “America’s diner,” Denny’s offers breakfast food all day. The casual dining restaurant chain has been in continuous operation for more than 65 years.
This year, Denny’s will continue its annual Veterans Day tradition of giving current and former military members a free “Build Your Own Grand Slam” breakfast on Nov. 11, 2022.
Denny’s Veterans Day Offer
You can get your free meal by showing your military or veteran ID at a participating Denny’s between 5 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11.
The “Build Your Own Grand Slam” is a customizable breakfast option that allows you to choose any four of the following menu items:
- Two eggs cooked the way you want them
- Two pancakes
- Two slices of bacon
- Two sausage patties
- Fried potatoes
- Two pieces of toast
- English muffin
- Grilled ham slice
- Seasonal fruit bowl
With all these choices, there is something for everyone. The offer is dine-in only, and you must show a valid military ID or DD-214.
Contact your local Denny’s to confirm the deal is available.
Denny’s Free Breakfast Offer Eligibility and Restrictions
Like most other Veterans Day offers at restaurants and retailers, Denny’s limits its free breakfast to veterans and active-duty military members who can prove their service.
The offer does not extend to everyone at the table, so people in your party who have not served should expect to pay full price.
You can’t combine the free Veterans Day meal with other promotions, and add-ons cost the regular menu price.
The offer is valid for dine-in customers only, and it does not include drinks or gratuity. So, be sure to bring money for coffee and please, tip your wait staff.
How to Prove You’re a Veteran
You may need to show proof of military service before taking advantage of Denny’s Veterans Day military discount.

Never Been to Denny’s? Here’s What to Expect
Denny’s traces its 65-year history to a doughnut stand called Danny’s in Lakewood, California, according to the breakfast chain’s website.
Like a lot of small businesses, the establishment underwent several changes in its first decade, including a name change to Denny’s. It also expanded to offer all-day service, and a complete breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert menu.
By 1981 Denny’s had about 1,000 locations. You can find about 1,700 locations in the United States, the Caribbean, Central America, the Middle East, South America and Southeast Asia.
Other Ways Denny’s Gives Back
Denny’s free annual Veterans Day breakfast for military members and veterans is part of the chain’s larger community-focused approach.
Denny’s Mobile Relief Diner offers free breakfasts to people affected by natural disasters and to first responders who help in the aftermath of disasters.
Each year, Denny’s also runs a fundraising campaign in February for Miami-based Tour de Force, which provides financial assistance to the family members of Florida law enforcement who died in the line of duty. So far, Denny’s has raised over $200,000 for Tour de Force.
Lots of Choices, But Breakfast is a Grand Slam
Free and discounted meals have become more common on and around Veterans Day in recent years as more businesses offer military discounts. If you’re not interested in Denny’s, you can find more Veterans Day restaurant and retail offers on The Military Wallet, as well as discounted attractions and events.
