Two southeastern grocery store chains and a national drugstore will offer Veterans Day military discounts.
On Friday, Nov. 11, 2022, Publix and Food Lion grocery stores will offer a 10% military discount to veterans, active-duty, National Guard and reserve service members.
Walgreens and Duane Reade drugstores – which carry some grocery items – will offer a 20% military discount through Veterans Day weekend.

Publix Military Discount
Veterans and active military members can save money on groceries this Veterans Day.
“As a show of our gratitude, all veterans and active military personnel are invited to save 10% on groceries on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2022,” Publix announced on its website.

The 10% military discount will not apply to:

- Gift cards
- Lottery tickets

How Publix Supports Military Members and Veterans
Publix frequently recruits transitioning military members and veterans to fill over 19,000 unique roles within the company.
“As you can imagine, each position requires a special skill set, and skills acquired while serving in the military often translate to many positions and careers at Publix,” the chain said in its Publix Patriots blog, which profiles veterans in successful careers at Publix.
“To those who wore the uniform, Publix can be more than a place to shop,” Publix said on its website. “We encourage hiring veterans in our stores, warehouses and offices,” Publix said. “We’re always on the lookout for a few good associates and encourage all veterans to apply here.”
Food Lion Military Discount
Food Lion will also offer veterans and active military members a 10% military discount on grocery store purchases.
“Food Lion is proud to show our gratitude to the men and women who serve our country and protect our freedoms every day,” Food Lion president Meg Ham said when the store offered the same military discount on Memorial Day in 2017. “It is an honor to thank them for their service to our country by providing this MVP discount to military and their families.”

The Food Lion “MVP” discount is only available on Nov. 11, 2022.
Military members must also show proof of military service and use their personal Food Lion MVP card to receive the discount.
The 10% military discount only applies to grocery items. It won’t work on:

Food Lion provides a number of benefits for military and veteran employees, including family support when service member employees deploy. In 2010, the Department of Defense awarded Food Lion with an Employer Support of the Guard and Reserves (ESGR) Freedom Award for its programs and services for military associates.
From Friday, Nov. 11 through Monday, Nov. 14, Walgreens will honor those who serve the country by offering 20% off regular price eligible store items, Walgreens spokesperson Meredith Beyer wrote in an email to The Military Wallet reporter Teresa Tennyson.
Walgreens offered the same 20% discount May 27-30 in honor of Memorial Day, and on July Fourth, according to two company news releases.

“The offering will be available for all veteran, active duty military personnel, as well as their family members.” Beyer said veterans, active military members and their families are eligible for the discount, but must show a valid military ID.
The Walgreens Veterans Day military discount only applies to in-store purchases, and you must have a myWalgreens rewards account.
You can’t combine the 20% Veterans Day discount with other promotions or coupons, including buy-one-get-one specials.
